New Year, New You!

When the new year hits, we all think of ways to be better versions of ourselves. What can I do differently to live a healthier lifestyle? This is the question most of America asks. One thing that people often don’t consider is their dental health.

Did you know your dental health could affect your overall health in different ways? Here are just a few things that could happen due to unhealthy dental hygiene:

  • Diabetes complications
  • Heart disease
  • Dementia
  • Respiratory infections
  • Pregnancy difficulties/low birth weight
  • Bone loss
  • Arthritis

And these are not all.

How could this happen you might ask? Well, think about an infection in your mouth. This infection can be swallowed leading to respiratory and stomach problems and it can go into your bloodstream, which in severe cases, could even lead to death. If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to heart disease which can cause heart attacks and strokes. It also causes arthritis to be even more painful than usual.

So, of the many ideas you may have for 2017, was dental even a thought? Your dental health is part of your overall health and should be a very important part of your 2017 healthy living goals.
