History of Mesa, AZ
The city of Mesa dates back at least 2,000 years when the Hohokam people arrived. They built the largest and most sophisticated canal system in this time period. By the 1100’s water was passing across 110,000 acres. By the 1450’s they had constructed hundreds of miles of canals which many we still use today. After the disappearance of the Hohokam, US Army troops subdued the Apache opening the way for settlement. By the late 1800’s 2 Companies had settled and on July 17, 1878 Mesa was registered as a 1-sq-mile town.
There are lots of attractions for both residents and visitors in the city of Mesa. From Arizona Museum of Natural History to nearby sights such as Butterfly Wonderland in neighboring Scottsdale, the city of Mesa will not disappoint those looking for a good time with friends and family.
Big Surf dates back to 1969. This water park has over 12 different rides. The Waikiki Wave Pool is the 1st wave pool ever built and the 3rd largest in North America. It holds 2.5 million gallons of water and produces a wave every 3 minutes. It has a separate splash park for the younger ones below 48 inches tall, daily boogie board sessions, and daily surf sessions.
