Preventive dentistry therapies keep teeth healthier longer, and support a lifetime of healthy teeth. Creating an enjoyable experience at Magic Smiles helps our patients take their oral health seriously, and improve the outcome of their smile for their entire life. Important aspects of preventive services that we provide include:
Routine Dental Exams
Early diagnosis of dental needs or concerns can help prevent complications and expensive treatments later on. Our dentists conduct very comprehensive examinations to pinpoint areas of need. From assessing strength of tooth enamel to evaluating growth and eruption patterns, every patient receives the comprehensive screenings needed to make necessary treatments as infrequent as possible.
Advanced digital dental x-rays make the x-ray process even quicker and easier to understand. By making our dental x-rays visible on a monitor, patients can see what is going on for them.
Using digital radiography allows us to better communicate with parents, reduces radiation, and shortens the time you or your family needs to spend in the clinical area.
Plaque and tartar buildup occur at all ages. A professional cleaning will remove bacteria from the mouth that can cause gingivitis, cavities, dental infections and affect the appearance of the teeth. We recommend that most patients receive a teeth cleaning every 6 months, unless there are severe oral hygiene concerns or active gum disease.
The American Academy of Pediatricians and American Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommend that children have their first dental exam around the time that their first teeth erupt, or no later than their 1st birthday.
One of the biggest factors that cause dental emergencies is trauma and fractures during sporting activities. A professionally fitted mouth guard not only stays securely in place and is comfortable to wear; but wearing one can also reduce the risk of concussion! Our guards can be customized to match school or team colors as well, which better encourages your athlete to wear it during their activity.
How would you like to stop decay from happening in the first place? With dental sealants, you can protect some of the most cavity prone areas of the mouth from ever developing tooth decay. Sealants for teeth are thin protective layers that are placed into deep grooves on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This makes brushing more effective, and seals out bacteria from entering deep into areas of the teeth that are difficult or impossible to keep clean.
After each cleaning, we apply a concentrated fluoride treatment to the teeth of our pediatric patients. This helps remineralize weakened areas of enamel, decrease decay, and eliminate tooth sensitivity.
Personalized Oral Hygiene Plan
During each appointment, our hygienists or assistants will help tailor a customized oral hygiene plan complete with instructions to help you take control of your oral health. We’ll discuss what is needed and how to encourage good oral hygiene habits in your family.
Dental professionals recommend brushing twice each day for no less than two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Floss once daily to clean between teeth by wrapping the floss around each tooth and gliding it gently up and down under the gumlines. Healthy gums do not bleed when oral hygiene is practiced properly and regularly. We also offer restorative dental services.
